Vital Wave completed landmark research to assess the usage of mobile phones among women in LMICs. This study featured research with 2,000 women from rural and urban areas in four countries (Kenya, Egypt, India and Bolivia) to assess their usage patterns, barriers to mobile uptake, and interest in mServices. It also featured in-depth case studies of the application of mobile services to empower women through the promotion of economic, social, and political participation and well-being. This report, Women and Mobile: A Global Opportunity, formed the foundation of the GSMA’s mWomen initiative.
