Melissa Ulbricht brings over a decade of experience in journalism, marketing, and communications to Vital Wave, with a particular focus on thought leadership, and editorial and content strategy. She helps organizations and initiatives develop and execute targeted campaigns that extend presence and drive engagement through a suite of services including strategy, materials development and production planning, relationship building, and identifying speakership opportunities. An expert writer and editor, she is adept at distilling complex, technical concepts to key audiences through high-value materials as well as building teams of contributors for ongoing content creation. Ms. Ulbricht is committed to the use of enabling technologies to improve the livelihoods of low-income and marginalized communities, particularly in terms of media development and access, financial inclusion, sustainable energy, and the environment.
Previously, Ms. Ulbricht managed marketing and communications at an environmental organization dedicated to implementing energy efficiency programs. In this role, she strengthened digital communications and proposals, developed and executed marketing plans and thought leadership campaigns, and increased online engagement and organizational reach. Prior to this, Ms. Ulbricht was the senior writer and program manager at MobileActive, reporting on mobile technology for social change. At MobileActive, Ms. Ulbricht also managed a Knight Foundation-funded project to create and deliver a multi-language resource for citizen journalists and media development organizations.
Ms. Ulbricht holds a Master’s in Journalism from the Missouri School of Journalism and a certificate in publishing from the Denver Publishing Institute. She received a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
